Multi-Prize Pool Tournaments

Roberto Romanello has a European Poker Tour (EPT) and World Poker Tour (WPT) title on his mother’s mantelpiece. As Unibet fans know, when it comes to playing live multi-table tournament poker there is, currently, no better player in the U.K. The Global Poker Index (GPI) rankings have him pegged as the UK number one and number 21 in the world. But Romanello doesn’t just play poker he lives and breathes it.

Not content with smashing it up at the tables, the Welshman has been busy creating a new format of live tournament poker called Multi Prize Pool Poker (MPP Poker) and on Thursday 10th January 2013, the Dusk Till Dawn (DTD) poker room in Nottingham will host the first-ever MPP event. The event will operate a £5,000 guarantee and if the talk on the poker forums is any indication of potential success, then there could be a great turnout.

Instead of offering separate tournaments for a wide range of buy-ins, the MPP format allows multiple buy-ins in the same tournament. So for example, in the inaugural event, the three buy-in options are £25+6, £50+8 or £100+10. The prize pool is then divided into three distinct pools: Prize pool 1, 2 & 3. A player who has paid £100+10 and then goes on to win the competition will win the top payouts of all three-prize pools. A player who has paid £50+8, and goes on to win the competition will be entitled to the prize pools 1 & 2, with the highest finishing £100+10 taking the top prize, and so forth.

Will the tournament structure be a success? There is only one way to find out and that’s to be at the DTD Poker Room on Jan 10th 2013.
