WSOP Highlights

Texas Hold’em poker is one of the most popular games on the planet with millions of people playing every day. For many of these people it is just something that they do for fun after a day of work, but for others playing Poker Online for real money on sites, they can earn a living from it. There are many reasons why poker is taken so seriously, but the main two are the ideas of working out the odds of hitting the cards you want quickly and then also reading other people on the table at the same time in order to work out if you can push them off the pot. This makes the game very dramatic and also very popular on television - with millions of people tuning in to watch some of the biggest tournaments in the world.

One of these tournaments is the World Series of Poker; held every year and televised across the world it is truly a highlight in the poker calendar. This year’s main event was no different, with over six thousand people entering into the event and creating a prize pool of over sixty two million dollars. Starting on July 7th these six thousand people were competing for a spot on the final table where they would be guaranteed over seven hundred thousand dollars. This final table was played on October 29th with Greg Merson coming out the overall winner. For this Greg won a massive eight and a half million dollars - making for a fantastic first win as well as his first.

As well as the main event there are also sixty other events held at the WSOP; this year one of the events that got the most press was The Big One for One Drop where the buy in was one million dollars, a record in itself. However out of each of these buy ins $111,111 was given to the One Drop foundation. The tournament was eventually won by Antonio Esfandiari - with his prize of over eighteen million dollars also breaking the record for the largest prize in poker history.
